About Federal Do Not Call (DNC) Compliance

The following FAQs are designed to provide your business with information about the federal Do Not Call (DNC) Registry.

What is the National Do Not Call Registry?

The National Do Not Call (“DNC”) Registry is a list of phone numbers of consumers who have chosen to limit the telemarketing calls they receive. The DNC Registry is maintained by the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) and enforced by the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”).

How does the National DNC Registry work?

When selling products and services over the phone to consumers, you are required by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to remove any phone numbers registered on the National DNC Registry from your calling list. These consumers should not be called.

The National DNC Registry is updated monthly. If your calls are covered by the registry, you must compare your calling lists to the registry once every 31 days and delete any registered phone numbers.

If you call a phone number listed on the National DNC Registry, the consumer can file a complaint with the FTC. Violators may be subject to monetary fines for each violation.

Certain types of calls are not covered by the do not call provisions. These may include calls from charities and political organizations. For more information on the DNC Registry, please visit https://www.donotcall.gov/.
